Compact digital Cameras - Nikon 2007 plans

It's interesting to see where Nikon will be focusing their energy in the Digital Compact Camera market during 2007. According to the Questions and Answer of financial results for first half of the year ending March 31, 2007, they write:

"This fiscal year also saw the entry of major consumer electronics firms into the market for digital SLR cameras, with business operations focusing on digital SLR cameras and interchangeable lenses. Estimated shipment units of compact digital cameras have been revised with a view to focusing on profits, and we will work to achieve expansions in sales by ensuring that the Face-priority AF and wireless LAN(Wi-Fi) technologies that we pioneered become firmly established in the market."

Nikons Face-Priority Autofocus (AF) is similar the Fujifilm Face Detection technology and uses the latest digital technology to automatically detect a person’s face at typical portrait taking distances, then, operating based on real photographic techniques, activates autofocus to focus upon the face area.
